Muscat Duty Free and Techies Infotech Launch Next-Generation Digital-First Shopping Platform

Muscat, Oman / Dubai, UAE – Dec 23, 2025 – Muscat Duty Free (MDF) has officially launched its new digital-first eCommerce platform, developed in partnership with Techies Infotech, marking a major step in its strategy to enhance the travel retail experience for passengers at Muscat International Airport and beyond.

The new website replaces MDF’s legacy Magento-based platform, which had become increasingly difficult to maintain and scale. With long page load times, limited features, and an outdated interface, the previous system struggled to keep pace with modern traveller expectations and global duty-free standards.

From slow and outdated to fast and traveller-first

The old Muscat Duty Free website, running on Magento 2.4.5, posed multiple challenges:

  • Pages sometimes took up to 10 minutes to load
  • The UI was dated, with minimal features and a basic catalog structure
  • Raffle ticket buyers faced issues with confirmations and unclear flows
  • Overall customer orders and engagement remained lower than expected

These issues impacted both customer trust and internal efficiency, prompting MDF to undertake a full replatforming and redesign.

The new website is built on Magento 2.4.8, bringing major improvements in performance, security, and scalability. Techies Infotech led the full rebuild – from experience design to backend integration – using a Figma-driven, mobile-first UI/UX approach.

Key features of the new Muscat Duty Free platform

The relaunched site introduces a host of enhancements designed around real traveller journeys:

  • Modern, intuitive UI/UX with a clean, Figma-designed interface optimised for mobile and desktop
  • New shopping sections, including curated collections and airport-only exclusives
  • Enhanced raffle experience with detailed raffle pages, FAQs, winners list, and a transparent end-to-end purchase journey
  • Smooth checkout for both guest and registered users, reducing friction at the final step
  • Multi-store switching, enabling users to move between three stores within seconds while maintaining a unified experience
  • Product review system to build trust and support informed purchase decisions
  • Deep ERP integration for accurate product, inventory, and order synchronisation

Despite the technical complexity, the complete redesign, replatforming, data migration, and ERP integration were delivered in just three months.

A strategic partnership for GCC travel retail

Muscat Duty Free is a flagship name in regional travel retail, and we’re proud to be their digital transformation partner,” said Anurag Byala, CEO, Techies Infotech. “This platform is built not just to solve yesterday’s problems, but to support tomorrow’s roadmap – from personalisation and loyalty to richer omnichannel journeys across the GCC.

With the new platform live, Muscat Duty Free is now better positioned to:

  • Increase online engagement and conversion
  • Offer a seamless experience to travellers planning purchases before their journey
  • Scale new initiatives such as targeted campaigns, loyalty integrations, and data-driven merchandising
